Most pressure washing jobs require minimal preparation — that's part of the appeal. But a few simple steps before the crew arrives make a genuine difference in the results you get, especially for driveways with specific staining problems or features that need protection.
Step 1: Clear the Surface
Move vehicles off the driveway at least an hour before the scheduled service. Vehicles leave a buffer of oil, rubber, and drip staining around where they park that needs to be treated — and we can't clean under a parked car. Move garbage cans, potted plants, basketball hoops, and any other movable items off the driveway surface and the immediate surroundings.
Step 2: Mark Problem Areas
If there are specific stains you want prioritized — oil spots, rust stains from fertilizer, heavy red clay areas, or areas where vehicles have leaked — mark them with chalk or just mention them when we arrive. Oil spots require pre-treatment with a degreasing agent before pressure washing. Without pre-treatment, pressure washing moves oil-based stains around rather than eliminating them. Flagging these areas ensures we apply the right treatment and give them the dwell time they need.
Step 3: Note Any Damage or Sensitive Features
Let us know if there are cracks, spalled areas, or damaged expansion joints in the concrete. These areas require lower pressure to avoid widening damage. Similarly, if your driveway has decorative scoring, stamped patterns, or applied sealant, tell us — these surfaces require different pressure and technique than standard broom-finish concrete.
Step 4: Ensure Water Access
We carry sufficient hose length to connect to an outdoor spigot on almost any property configuration, but knowing where your outdoor faucet is located speeds things up. If your water pressure is unusually low or you have a well with a pressure tank, let us know in advance — we may bring a water buffer tank for jobs with marginal supply pressure.
What to Expect During the Job
A standard single-car driveway takes 45–75 minutes including setup, pre-treatment of any stained areas, surface cleaning, edge detailing, and rinse. Larger driveways or properties with walkways and patios added to the scope take longer. We'll tell you the estimated duration when we quote the job.
If you have extensive oil staining, let us know when you call for a quote. Severe oil contamination sometimes requires a second application or specialized hot water treatment — we want to set appropriate expectations upfront rather than surprise you onsite.
After the Wash: Maximizing the Results
Freshly washed concrete is porous and absorbs staining more easily than sealed concrete. If you're interested in extending the time between professional cleanings, a concrete sealant applied within a few weeks of washing is the most effective step you can take. The sealant fills the pores of the concrete surface, making future oil drips and organic growth much easier to clean and slower to penetrate. We can recommend local sealant applicators who do quality work after a professional clean.
